The reasons I believe the Nexus One cell phone running on the Google Android System will make the iPhone obsolete are as follows:
- The open source feature of Android, which allows developers, smartphone manufacturers and carriers to modify the operating system is its biggest strength. Some naysayers believe that it sounds good in theory but that its implementation could splinter the platform and impede software application development. I do not believe this to be true.
- While the iPhone remains the gold standard of the smartphone market, I do not believe it is likely to remain so in the "not-so-distant" future. While no competitive smartphone has emerged as an iPhone killer the android system offers a more customizable platform.
- I am such a strong believer in the open-source concept and nobody does open source better than Google. Some people believe that no one develops user-friendly software like Apple.
