SCREEN PROTECTOR

The screen protector is the only thing I have an issue with. It will not stay on the screen and keeps lifting off on the corners. Otherwise, the attachments are great and easy to use.
Kindle 2: A Life-changing Device
2010-08-10
Reviewer: Amanda R. LaRosa
There are only a few devices that I would classify as personally life-changing, the most recent one prior to the Kindle 2 being the Tivo (or any other DVR).
I confess that I don't like to read, and have confined most pleasure reading to vacation times. Maybe it's been the issue of having to remember to carry around a book, getting bored or distracted by having only that one item available to read, whatever... the Kindle has changed that. Whatever I want to read - today's newspaper, a magazine, or the novel I've come to obsess over - it's there, and because it's there I USE IT. Whether I have five minutes or thirty, the Kindle comes out. The time I used to take playing with a dumb phone game while waiting in a doctor's office, before returning to work at lunchbreak, waiting in the car to pick up my son, is now constructively consumed by Kindling. Yes, it's become a verb in our house. My husband calls to check in, asks what am I doing, I'm "Kindling", no further explanation required.
Before I took the plunge I thought a lot about not having a color display, but decided that even if it got me reading more pleasure books (which for me hasn't contained pictures for the most part since I was about six) that would be good enough. I've started a couple of newspaper subscriptions, and while I don't receive the illustrations I have found that for receiving "the news" the Kindle serves it's purpose. (With a homepage of my computer set to a news source, I see the illustrations soon enough). Just being able to read more has proven a delight. I'm actually leaving the TV turned off at home and reading for pleasure when not on vacation, something I never foresaw happening.
Reading in sunlight is amazing, just about the same as reading the printed page. Being able to adjust the font size is a wonderful convenience that allows me to share the Kindle with my son (when he can tear it away from me). I'm not so keen about having to adjust the orientation of the PDF files of a couple of technical books, but apparently that's the nature of the beast and one that I can easily live with since most of my reading is not of PDF files. Battery life is super, I've purchased an OCTOVO faux leather slip cover (see my review for the yellow sleeve) and consider it a vital necessity for protecting it whenever it isn't being used or charged, and also have an OCTOVO Splash Proof Case to protect it while being used at the pool. And while I'd like to blame the Kindle and it's splash-proof case for a recent sunburn (having stayed out too long in order to finish "The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo"), in the words of someone who lost a condiment holder, it's my own damned fault. That's been the only downside in the two months I've had it.
There is no question in my mind that E-books are here to stay, they are the future in general, in particular a God-send for students (who now schlepp waaay too many textbooks around even in early grades) once a standard device emerges that will hold textbooks (although electronic text books - ETBooks, if you will - will *have* to have to support color picture and illustrations). I consider the Kindle is the best in class and the one that right now is poised to become the standard, at least until the issue of color is overcome (and no, I will NOT use an IPad, thank you). Ordering books and publications couldn't be easier. In fact, it might just be too easy as evidenced by the credit card bill for my recent additions. But again, that's my problem, not the device's issue.
I LOVE this device, I can't say enough good things about it.
When you buy a charger- there better be a cord included!

This was an absolute waste of money. When you buy a charger for your Kindle- you usually NEED THE CORD THAT ATTACHES THE KINDLE TO THE PLUG!!!!!!! Do not buy this unless you want your overnight shipping to be 3 days late and you definitely dont want to charge your kindle. Go to Radio Shack- for $18- and get the real thing.
Kindle charger kit missing most important part-Buyers beware

I ordered the charger kit that specificaly mentioned WALL and CAR chargers. You do indeed get the chargers, but NOT THE CORD that goes from the charger to the Kindle. I bought this thinking I would be able to have a dedicated cord in another location other than my factory cord that came with the kindle (i.e. the car). It is my fault for not triple checking the list of items in the kit. I have probably bought 15 chargers over the years for various cell phones and other portable electronics. I have never been sold a little block which plugs into the wall that did not come with the cord. Now I have to go buy a cord with one end USB and the other a micro USB plug. I would have certainly paid a few dollars more to get a COMPLETE kit. The most aggravating part was that I selected super saver shipping and I didn't learn of my error for 9 days. Super saver is cheap, but definitely not fast. Now I wasted 9 days and still don't have an extra charger.
